Congratulations Angelina Oates
Written on the 11 September 2015 by ATECCongratulations to ATEC's Second year Data and Voice Communication apprentice Angelina Oates who won Adult Aboriginal Learner of the Year Award at a recent Department of State Development Adult Learners Week Awards held on 3rd September 2015.
While working full-time at Holden's as a spray painter, Angela wanted a challenging long term career and undertook Cert II in Data and Voice Communications pre-voc training. Angelina obtained this qualification by studying five nights a week for nine months while still working full-time. Angelina is a driven young Aboriginal woman who successfully secured her adult apprenticeship with ATEC in a predominantly male workforce.Another example of how Angelina rose to any challenges was shortly after securing her apprenticeship, Angelina was diagnosed with debilitating illness. Just two months later, Angelina was back at work (albeit still undergoing treatment). Angelina just wanted to get back to work and her study commitments without any fuss.
Angelina has also achieved other qualifications including Excavator and Loader tickets. Her learning has increased her ability to work independently and Angelina no longer second guesses herself as her training provides solid backing which has given her the confidence to make on-site decisions. One of her many goals will be to provide leadership and mentoring to future apprenticesATEC is very proud of Angelina who is inspirational. We know she will achieve great things and be a successful role model for others.
